Horoscope fans everywhere have been in an uproar these past few weeks. The cause of this is a rumor that said all of the astrological signs were incorrectly assigned.

This rumor began courtesy of astronomers from the Minnesota Planetarium Society who stated that due to the earth’s shift in position in recent years all of the signs changed. In addition, a 13th zodiac sign would be added known as Ophiuchus. This sign is actually said to have existed in the past but during ancient Babylonian signs was thrown out leaving the twelve signs we are all familiar with: Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aires, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra and Scorpio.

Many firm believers in astrology were distraught because the sign that once described their personal traits and characteristics is now said to be incorrect. There are those who believe their sign to embody who they are in every way possible.  However whether or not this sign change is true or not has yet to be confirmed.

The zodiac signs omitted the thirteenth Zodiac constelliation, Ophuchicus

Fox News recently published an article talking about this recent issue. Commentator, Kelli Fox declared that this change in alignment will not effect people’s current zodiac symbols. She says the zodiac signs have been altered and changed throughout history. Also, she says that the signs are determined based on where the sun is when you are born. Where it is in present day is therefore irrelevant.

Among Mariemont High School students the views on astrology vary greatly. Junior, Nick Butcher and junior, Max Mongenas are both firmly against astrologies.

Butcher states, “They’re stupid and pointless.”

Mongenas confirms saying, “I think they’re based on superstition, and it doesn’t make sense to follow them.”

However, Sara Bernstein disagrees. She includes herself among the many irate horoscope readers when she found out about the potential change.

“I was so mad because a Libra is nothing like a Scorpio and it was nothing like me, it was just all wrong!” she says.

“It’s like getting a whole new personality because that’s what your sign kind of determines.”

The discrepancy about the truth behind the zodiac signs continues. Astrology lovers everywhere will be waiting anxiously until then. One thing is for sure, though, if proved to be true, there are going to be a lot people regretting their tattoo choices.
